Mariano is a new engineer at EDGE and a father of two boys, aged 13 and 10. He enjoys reading, swimming, and rowing in his free time. Mariano served in the Marines before working at Caltrans in San Diego, where he was involved in a freeway connection project to the Mexico border. His role focused on electrical systems, including power for lighting and control, a Fiber Optic network, closed caption TV cameras, telecom networks, and ramp metering systems.
He then worked as a Telecom Engineer for PG&E in Chico, where he gained in-depth experience in network communications, fiber optics, and microwave transmissions while working on substation projects across Northern California. Later, Mariano joined Caltrans in Oakland, where he contributed to their first smart corridor project, running from the Carquinez Bridge to the SF Bay Bridge. He helped train engineers and technicians to troubleshoot and power up smart systems, delivering the project on a tight schedule. Most recently, he worked as a consultant in Stockton, teaching fiber optic system standards to Caltrans electrical inspectors.
Mariano earned his EIT while at Caltrans and later obtained his Electrical Engineering degree from San Diego State University. Although his design experience dates back to his early years at Caltrans, he has continually reinvented himself throughout his career—moving from civil to electrical engineering, designer to construction engineer, and electrical to telecom engineer. Mariano is excited about his new role at EDGE and looks forward to learning from his colleagues, contributing to the team’s workflow, and embracing the company’s culture.
